Pennsylvania, we now have an Arts Caucus!

This year the Pennsylvania General Assembly marks a first for arts and culture with the establishment of the Legislative Arts & Culture Caucus.  It was established at the suggestion of Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Arts & Culture Coalition (a statewide coalition of organizations representing the arts, culture, museums, public broadcasting, tourism, and zoos).

Providing leadership for the Caucus are Senator Jay Costa (Allegheny County), Senator Patrick Browne (Northampton/Lehigh), Rep. Stan Saylor (York County) and Rep. Tim Briggs (Montgomery County).  The PA Legislative Arts & Culture Caucus will:

  • Support caucus members in their efforts to draft and pass legislation that advances arts and culture in the Commonwealth,
  • Provide analysis on pending legislation,
  • Provide caucus members and their staffs with periodic briefings on pertinent issues confronting and relating to the Commonwealth's arts and culture infrastructure,
  • Develop issue specific talking points and press materials for caucus members to use in public and with the media, and
  • Provide research, education, policy development, and other support on arts and culture to the members of the General Assembly
We encourage you to invite your legislators to become members of the Arts & Culture Caucus.  Contact Jenny Hershour at for information on inviting your legislators to join.
